Hurricane Ike

Since I haven't kept up with this blog and since I'm generally not very good at keeping in touch, you may not even know that we are living in Houston, TX. (We are actually in Cypress which is a far north west suburb of Houston).
(Friday, September 12) The kids had the day off of school today and most of the area businesses are closed (including HP where Ryan works) so that we could have the day to prepare for Hurricane Ike.
You can see we took down the net on our trampoline and flipped it over to try to keep it from being carried by the strong winds we are predicted to get during the night tonight.
These pictures were taken at about 7:30pm and while the wind is strong it doesn't feel scary or stronger than other storms we've had here... yet!
Since we are not in an evacuation area, and are far enough away from the coast we have been advised to stay in our home and ride out the storm here. We are hoping there won't be much or any damage to our neighborhood. More than likely we will lose power for a while, but for now we are just waiting to see what happens. I can't tell you how good it feels to know we have 72-hour kits, a full pantry, and cans of wheat, dry milk, sugar, etc, under our beds! And - after 4 years of owning empty water drums, we finally filled them yesterday!
